ATA NAMES STOREY TRUCKING AMONG STATE’S SAFEST FLEETS
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Jackson County’s Storey Trucking, Co., Inc. was recognized among ’s safest trucking fleets at the Alabama Trucking Association Safety and Maintenance Management Council Fleet Safety Awards Banquet held here March 26. The awards recognize ATA member companies with the lowest accident frequency per million miles traveled within the previous year.
Storey Trucking had the third lowest accident frequency rate in the General Commodities Line Haul category among fleets traveling less than 1 million mileswithin the state. Company president Paul Storey and safety administrator Vicki Horton accepted the award.First and second places were awarded to My-Way Transportation, Inc. and Andrews Trucking, Inc., respectively.
ATA’s Fleet Safety contest is judged each year by an independent panel comprised of officials from the Alabama Department of Public Safety, Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Judges scrutinize the entrants’ overall accident frequency compared to the number of miles driven. Entrants are divided into divisions according to the type of freight services they provide.
Founded in 1938, the Alabama Trucking Association is a non-profit corporation operating as a trade association. The state trucking association represents the Alabama motor carrier industry in the advancement of highway transportation and serves as the "voice of trucking" in this state. The Association maintains headquarters inMontgomeryAla. It conducts activities for the improvement of trucking service to the public and sponsors programs for the trucking industry in the public interest and industry betterment. The Alabama Trucking Association's membership consists of more than 720 members, including for-hire and private truck operators along with its allied industry members (those who equip and service the industry).
